Sunscreen, sunscreen and more sunscreen

The long weekend’s here! I’m sure you’ve got plans to head to the beach. Well, Makeup Guru Ephraim Hunte shares some tips and cautions that may help to minimize the consequences of sunburn, sunstroke and dehydration especially during this Easter weekend..

Face and body

Moisturize and hydrate skin thoroughly before going to bed. After bathing, apply face moisturiser and body lotion on damp skin (this helps to seal in additional moisture). Re-apply when moisture has evaporated. Repeat in the morning.

Face/foundation

Clean skin thoroughly and hydrate with a good SPF moisturiser (blot off excess if face is of an oily skin type). Use a foundation with SPF.

Body

Sunscreen, sunscreen and more sunscreen

Try the higher numbers like SPF30, SPF40, and SPF45 on your body. The higher the number ratings, the longer the protection.
Note: Higher SPF numbers simply mean the product will give longer sunblock protection. Repeat sunblock application on your shoulders, back and legs every two to four hours.

Lip protection

The delicate skin of the lips can easily become sunburned. Use a lip balm with SPF, followed by a lipstick with SPF.

MAKECLASSIC MAKEOVER starring EHP Vamoose Concealer®

Hyper-pigmentation (the darkening of skin colour due to excess melanin production) varies from mole-like, freckled and mottled marring to large, patchy discolourations.

Some conditions are easily treated with skin lighteners like hydroquinone—cocktail formulas. Others require laser therapies, skin peels and skin-resurfacing treatments but are usually associated with skin traumas and side effects, not to mention the exorbitant related costs.

However, make-up offers a quick-fix remedy that’s painless, inexpensive and can add a touch of elegance to the overall picture. And, if by chance you are not fully satisfied, all you’ll need to do is simply WASH IT OFF!

Cover-up Technique

One of the best corrective make-up formulas available in T&T for cosmetically camouflaging or concealing hyper-pigmentation is the EHP Vamoose Concealer®. It’s a water-resistant, smudge-resistant formula that provides long-lasting, natural-looking coverage. Here’s a make-up technique that will offer an effective cover-up application for moderate and severe hyper-pigmentation conditions.

* Start on a well-cleansed skin

* Select a shade of EHP Vamoose Concealer® that blends into your natural skin tone (Vamoose comes in customized blends)

* With a cosmetic sponge or fingers, first apply the EHP Vamoose Concealer® to area of hyper-pigmentation

* Apply a light application of  Setting Powder to lightly bind the EHP Vamoose Concealer®

* Stipple on (a patting action) a second layer of EHP Vamoose Concealer® over the first layer and proceed with a light application over the rest of the face. If the hyper-pigmented area is not a severe discolouration, you can use a cream foundation instead (as close to your natural skin tone as possible) for your second layering application

* Apply another dusting of Setting Powder with a powder brush. Then press on loose Setting Powder with a puff for a stronger and longer-lasting set. Do not rub the powder onto the skin. This might dislodge your first concealed application

* Use your powder brush to dust off the excess powder left over from the effects of the puff.

Mission Accomplished! Flawless coverage that’s not cakey or mask-like in appearance.
Important Tips

* Never go outside without a suitable sun-block and avoid the sun during high peak ultraviolet radiation hours of 10 am to 4 pm.

* Make-up will not only help to camouflage the condition and enhance your looks, but may also contribute sun-blocking qualities for added skin protection.

Medical Data

Nevus of Ota is a rare hyper-pigmentation skin marring that usually appears on one side of the face as bluish-greenish-to-gray speckled or mottled patches. It primarily affects the forehead, temple, cheek area, or periorbital skin (around the eye). From a clinical perspective, skin specialists have sanctioned the use of Q-switched ruby laser therapy as a safe modality that’s an effective non-scarring treatment of nevus of ota.
